We were excited to introduce two magnificent new musicians this year. A native of Vigevano, Italy,
Rossano Sportiello graduated from the Italian Conservatory and began his musical
career at the age of 18 by joining the Milano Jazz Gang, one of Europe's historic bands.
Louisiana native Topsy Chapman charmed and endeared herself to this Atlanta audience as she has around the world. To hear her is a pure delight for people of all ages. Again we transformed the very spacious Grand Ballroom of the Westin Atlanta North at Perimeter into a Cabaret Jazz Hall. A special thanks to those who live in the Atlanta area and joined us this year. Our party continues to be widely talked about by both musicians and fans all over the country. We had patrons from 50 US states and nine countries and the list continues to grow. We continue in classic AJP tradition to assemble for your listening and dancing pleasure the very best combos of traditional jazz you will ever hear. Each year we have many "first timers", who see the enthusiasm of those receiving their 5 and 10-year pins for those who have been attending for 5 or 10 years. We anticipate with the experience, they will become "regulars" too. Thanks for all who made AJP! XXI a success. Come see what all the excitement is about! April is just around the corner! The many who have attended our Jazz Parties over the years have commented to us that AJP! is their favorite. The combos Phil put together were winners, and without a doubt, with Sir John Cocuzzi's guidance, Philip will continue the tradition well. We welcomed 20 world class musicians to AJP XXI, all are favorites of the Atlanta Jazz Party!, including a third visit from the lovely Nicki Parrott on Bass and vocals. As is customary the musicians play six sets of traditional jazz on Friday, six sets on Saturday nights from 7:30 to Midnight, and five sets on Saturday afternoon from 1:00-5:00pm and Sunday from 11:00 to 3:00pm. The Patrons get all these sessions plus the Saturday morning musical brunch.. which is always very popular. In each session every player is featured, with a few exceptions as Philip caters to these busy musicians! The sets are varied and songs are rarely repeated. The sessions are in the casual, cabaret setting of the Grand Ballroom, with a cash bar right outside the ballroom. The music is always in the tradition of Chicago/New York BG Quartet, West Coast, New Orleans jazz bands and combos. As usual our party is a clean air Jazz Party.. with a near by smoking area.
