BOB WILBER - CLARINET
Bob Wilber grew up in Scarsdale, NY, where his father, a jazz fan, encouraged his interest in music. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and played with a young trad-jazz group, The Wildcats. Bob became a protege of Sidney Bechet and while living at his home, helped Sidney transcribe compositions. Later he performed with Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Bob Crosby and Eddie Condon. He co-led Soprano Summit with Kenny Davern, was a founding member of the World's Greatest Jazz Band and founding director of the Smithsonian Jazz Repertoire Ensemble. Bob was recognized with a 1986 Grammy for his musical score of the film, "The Cotton Club." Bob has numerous recordings to his credit and has played all over the world at concerts, festivals and parties.
